Sophocles was born about 500 years before Yesua in ancient Greece. He wrote at least 123 plays during his lifetime, but only 7 complete plays have survived. Sophocles was a champion playwright in the ancient city state of Athens, winning about 24 of the competitions which were held during religious festivals. Drama was considered the highest artform as it was a vehicle to reveal human behavior and thereby develop better ways to embody the Divine.

Today Sophocles is best known for his Theban plays which revolve around the story of Oedipus and his family. King Oedipus has the distinction of having the Oedipus complex named after him.

Sophocles, was born a few years before the Battle of Marathon into a wealthy family and thus received an excellent education. It took thousands of years before the children of all people in Greece would receive a good education. In civilized nations at the advent of the 21st Century all children were given a good education. In the advanced nations children were also given University educations.

In the United States during the early 21st Century, the children of other nations were educated at the University level through scholarships provided by their host nations, while the children of that nation were not generally provided with education past what was called High School. High School was largely a social experience which relied heavily on sports such as football and basketball to socialize the children.
