Psalm 71

IN thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never he put to confusion.

2 Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me.

3 Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou lust given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.

“Be thou my strong habitation “— This implies a habitual dwelling (the rock of Ps. LX11: 7 and LXXV11I: in God, and as the desire correlative of it the Divine Spirit gives commandment to save us, i.e., it is Itself the Principle of continuous sal-vation. Here again he rejoices because he knows God to be Absolute certainty of Saving Power (verses 5, 14, 15, 22 to 24).

This knowledge of Divine Spirit is the Source of Strength (verse 16), and it is gained by the study of the Divine working (verse 17). The son learns to work as he sees the working of the Father (John V: 19). “Be ye imitators of God” (Eph. V: I R.V.). “Work as God works” (Bacon). God is vivifying Spirit in us (verse 20), increasing our greatness (= expansion, evolution) and strengthening us on every side (verse 21). All this comes from knowing the Truth about God (verse 22). This is life Eternal to know the only True God and him whom He sends (John XV11: 3).
