is only to teach us the true relation of soul and spirit. And the fundamental rule of practice regarding it is, that we cannot follow it if we are knowingly allowing iniquity in our heart (verse 18). But if we do not do this then God does hear us (verse 19). We are invited to study the working of God (verses 5 and 7). It is the Power of the Spirit that rules supremely throughout the universe, and it is impossible for those who reject it to be exalted. Verse 8 calls on those who know and live by these things — God is peculiarly “our God” (Ps. LXVII:6)
