3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.

5 For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.

6 Thou wilt prolong the king’s life: and his years as many generations.

8 So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

Confidence in God as the foundation, the ultimate Rock (verse 4). The continual abiding in the tabernacle, i.e., the inner place, curtained all round and above, closed in from all winds, thus enabling the soul to preserve its true form, where also is the altar of incense.

The heritage (verse 5) = full possession of God. “The King” (verse 6) is the same that is mentioned in Ps. XLV. He abides for ever, because he is preserved by Mercy (or Love) and Truth — not only received from God, but as being his own principles of life. Thus he sings praise to God for ever, but the actual life of performance is daily (verse
