For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.
But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.
They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.
Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.
Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.
The gist of this Psalm is the suffering resulting from wrongdoing. This is here called the wrath of God, but by comparison with other Scriptures this will be found to be said according to Truths of Appearance. The real cause is twofold: 1. sin, wilful transgression against the Truth; 2. foolishness, or ignorant transgression of the Truth (verses 3 and 5). Still God’s love and faithfulness remain at the back of it all, as his trust, because the “wrath” is by Truth of Appearance only, and the Truth of Substance is always there still. The way out of the trouble is by being sorry for the sin and confessing it to God (verse 18); just as in Ps. XXX11: 5. Cf. I John 1:8,9.
