4 The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
5 The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars; yea, the Lord breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.
7 The voice of the Lore divideth the flames of fire.
Cf. “He maketh his angels spirits and his ministers a flame of fire “— or Soul and Spirit. Accordingly this would mean apportionment of gifts and powers to His different ministers, and sending them their several ways.
8 The voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness; the LORD shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.
The result of the Land’s shaking is to bring together into order what was before in confusion (see Ezek. XXXV11: 7, “the bones came together”). A wilderness is a place of disorder, but containing often the material for great fruitfulness (Isa. LXVI: 14, “bones flourish like an herb"). Perhaps Kadesh is allied to the word Kadosh. If so, this is a promise to bring into fruitful order the disjecta membra of Truth scattered in all the writings of the class indicated by Kadosh.
Or Ká, the soul; and desh, a country.
Verses 5 to 8 speak of a systematic placing of Truth in its right order, by means of ministers appointed for this work, both breaking the cedars and shaking the wilderness of the Kadesh.
