Murphy's principle studies were in Eastern Religions which made him enormously popular in contrast with the classic Chrislamic influenced writers such as Emmet Fox. Murphy so much time in India, he was made an Andhra Research Fellow at the University of India.

Dr Murphy was a scholar of the I-Ching, the Chinese book of divination and was a recognized authority on mysticism and mental science. His works continue to inspire a host of new readers and spark the quest for enlightenment.
