Thomson Jay Hudson worked as Chief Examiner of the US Patent Office, but became famous after his book The Law of Psychic Phenomena was published in 1893.

Thomson Jay Hudson's work presaged late 20th Century and early 21st Century Scientific breakthroughs by scientists such as Rupert Sheldrake.

Hudson was deeply interested in the natural and healthy development of humanity, believing strongly that science should serve and support health and well being, not war.

Hudson's three laws:

1. Man has two minds: the objective mind (conscious) and the subjective mind (subconscious).
2. The subjective mind is constantly amenable to control by suggestion.
3. The subjective mind is incapable of inductive reasoning.

Hudsom postulated that contact with "spirits" or the "astral plane" was in fact contact with the medium's or the subject's own subconscious. Anything else could be explained by telepathy, which he defined as contact between two or more subconsciouses.
