SUBLIMATING THOUGHT DEFINED
Question—What is meant by sublimating thought?
ANSWER—This is a psychological term and means transmuting the em0tional energy of desire into constructive channels, thereby eliminating the morbid secretion which is a result of a subjective accumulation of unexpressed desires. It is a freeing of repressed action, transmuting it and conveying its energy into other channels of self-expression. This energy is called Libido or the emotional craving for self- expression back of all things, the repression of which leads to psychoneurosis, the sublimation of which heals this neurosis.
CONTROLLING ADVERSE THOUGHTS
Question—How can we learn to control adverse thoughts?
ANSWER—By consciously recognizing them as such, not fooling ourselves and saying they are not there when they are there, but by coming to understand that they have no power and then intelligently conveying consciousness to their opposite, nonresistantly but definitely. A direct statement in mind that a certain thought no longer has any power over us moves toward the neutralizing of that thought. (page 36)
